Comment Policy

Rules for commenting on the articles and studies on this website, and how the firm reviews every comment before it is published.

Effective October 22, 2026.

The English version of this policy is a translation of the Spanish original. If there is any discrepancy between the two versions, the Spanish text prevails.

1. What comments are for

The articles and studies on this website accept comments so that readers can share their views, make observations or ask questions about the topic of the publication. This is a space for general discussion of what has been published, not a channel for consultations about individual cases.

2. Every comment is reviewed before it is published

  • No comment appears on the website when it is submitted. Each one remains pending until the firm reviews it.
  • The firm publishes comments that comply with this policy exactly as they were written: it does not correct or edit them. If a comment fails to comply with the policy, even in part, it is not published.
  • Comments are reviewed on business days, with no fixed timeframe. The firm is not obliged to publish or reply to every comment.
  • The firm may remove a published comment at any time if it finds that the comment does not comply with this policy or if its author asks for it to be removed.
  • For security reasons, web addresses included in a comment are displayed as plain text, not as links.

3. What is not published

We do not publish comments that:

  • offend a person’s dignity or honor, damage their reputation or falsely accuse them of a crime, that is, comments that may constitute insult (injurias), defamation (difamación) or calumny (calumnia) under articles 145, 146 and 147 of the Costa Rican Criminal Code, whether directed at individuals, public officials, judges, attorneys, businesses or institutions;
  • contain insults, obscenities, mockery or aggressive language, even if not aimed at anyone in particular;
  • discriminate against or incite hatred or violence toward anyone on the basis of ethnicity, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, political opinion, disability, age or any other characteristic;
  • contain threats, harassment or intimidation;
  • disclose other people’s personal data, such as names that identify the parties to a case, ID numbers, phone numbers, addresses or health information, or any information that could identify a minor;
  • reveal confidential information or details of judicial, administrative or notarial proceedings that could identify the people involved;
  • advertise or offer products or services;
  • impersonate another person or use a name that misleads readers about who is writing;
  • copy substantial portions of someone else’s text or infringe copyright;
  • incite others to commit crimes or to disobey court orders;
  • are unrelated to the topic of the publication or repeat what has already been said.
  • Commenting on a publication, or receiving a reply from the firm, does not create an attorney–client relationship.
  • The firm’s replies are general and informational. They do not constitute legal advice on any specific case and are no substitute for consulting an attorney who knows all the facts and documents.
  • Anything published can be read by anyone. Please do not describe your case or share confidential information in a comment. If you would like us to review your situation, book a consultation or write to us at [email protected].
  • The firm does not publicly answer questions that require analyzing a particular case, and it may decline to publish or reply to comments about matters in which it is or may become professionally involved.

5. Commenters are responsible for what they write

Each person is responsible for what they write. The opinions expressed in comments are those of their authors and do not represent the firm’s position. Publishing a comment does not mean that the firm agrees with it or has verified the facts it states.

6. Your data

To post a comment, we ask for your name, your email address and the text of your comment.

  • If your comment is approved, the name you entered, the text and the date are published. You may use your first name or a shortened form of your name, as long as you do not impersonate anyone else.
  • Your email address is not published or shared. The firm uses it only to contact you about your comment, if necessary.
  • Comments that are not published are deleted.
  • How this data is stored, for how long, and your rights: Privacy Policy.

If you would like us to remove or correct one of your comments, write to [email protected] from the email address you used to comment and tell us which publication it was posted on.

7. How to report a comment

If a published comment affects you or you believe it breaches this policy, write to [email protected] with the link to the publication and the name of the commenter. We will review it and remove it if appropriate.

8. Changes to this policy

The firm may update this policy. The current version is always the one published on this page, with its date. Comments are reviewed under the policy in force at the time of review.
